Local Girl Scout Kirpa Gill hopes to once again ‘spread the warmth’ in Turlock with a coat and cold weather attire drive.

Gill has been a member of Girl Scout Troop #1731 since 2015. As part of her work to earn scout awards, she decided last year that a coat drive would be a good way to give back to the community.  Gill and her fellow scouts were able to collect over 400 coats and winter accessories for those in need in Turlock last year. She hopes to repeat that success this year and expand the project to include the communities of Ceres and Modesto. Gill’s goal is to have the donations distributed to local shelters in all three cities before Thanksgiving.

“I chose winter coats for my community project because there are so many who are less fortunate and lack winter clothing or are due for replacements for such clothing. Considering myself fortunate enough to own not one but many pieces of clothing that keep me warm and snug during the winter, I am eager to give others that same feeling of warmth and help make their winters a little more comfortable,” she said.

Gill will be hosting the coat drive at the Keyes Fire Department from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The event aims to collect lightly used coats, jackets, sweaters, warm hats, gloves, and any other winter gear for all ages.
