Allison Cox captured Turlock’s heart when she was part of the U.S. Rowing team that won a silver medal in the 2004 summer Olympics. Since then, she has turned her experience in big city marketing firms to help the businesses and organizations in her hometown through her company, Ali Cox & Company Marketing. Cox also was fundamental in launching the HeyTurlock! Platform to help the community promote local events.

Cox received her bachelor’s degree from the University of San Diego, where she majored in communication studies and minored in business administration.

Q. How did a girl from California’s Central Valley end up on the U.S. Olympic rowing team?

A. Well, coming from Turlock I had a great access to sports from a young age. This helped me learn how to be a good teammate, leader and how to compete. Those are three important aspects for any Olympian to have and I'm thankful for our community for that.

Q. How did you first get started in digital marketing?

A. I had several jobs in New York City after the Olympics, most notably working with IMG, the world's largest sports and entertainment agency. That was an awesome education in itself. From IMG, I kept growing within each of my professional roles — and of course I kept learning because I love it!

Q. What are some of your favorite marketing projects you’re currently working on?

A. I love working with our ag clients and local medium-sized businesses. Our team is launching new websites and generating content daily, which is thrilling. Working in the Central Valley is so rewarding and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Q. How did HeyTurlock! come about?

A. My cousin Hilary Callis and I both moved back to Turlock from San Francisco and New York City, respectfully, around the same time. We both love Turlock and were eager to share all of the wonderful attributes our community has to share. So, we decided to build a platform for this to happen! The calendar has helped to streamline community event conflicts and our social media channels help us share the good word.

Q. What non-work related projects are you excited about?

A. I'm most excited about my family! My husband and two sons are the apple of my eye!

Q. What is your favorite thing to do in Turlock for fun?

A. My absolute favorite thing to do in Turlock is to push my kiddos in their stroller through our tree-lined streets and to frequent the local parks! Well, that and to drink wine at my favorite hot spots on Main Street!

Q. What is the last book or TV show that captivated you and why?

A. Oh goodness, I have a newborn and a two-year-old. Quite frankly, I haven't done much of either lately. I do keep up with the daily marketing trade blogs, however!

Q. What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

A. Probably that I climbed the Sydney Harbor Bridge, which was terrifying!
