The Holistic Expo will make its way back to Turlock this Saturday at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds, 900 N. Broadway.
The expo runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in building E-2. Admission is $3, with free parking and free seminars inside. Kids 12 and younger get in free.
This is the 18th year — the expo comes to the fairgrounds four times per year — that the expo will be sponsored by the Spiritual Center of Turlock. Daydreams and Nightmares costume shop in Modesto is the co-sponsor.
The expo offers a variety of activities and merchandise, according to organizer Gaylene Cornell, a psychic medium and spiritual healer who also serves as minister at the Turlock Spiritual Center.
“We’re an eclectic blend of spiritual beliefs and people; everyone is welcome here,” said Cornell, who teaches healing and psychic development classes each Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Turlock Spiritual Center. “We’re not looking to replace standard medicine. We’re here just to offer different views and alternatives. The choice is always yours.”
Approximately 80 vendors will be on hand — holistic healers, psychic readers, hand-crafted items, crystals, artists, authors and food booths, including:
* Cornell’s own Heaven and Earth Apothecaries
* Turlock resident Tracy Ellison, who sells knitted and crocheted items
* Steven Grundy of San Jose, who practices Jin Shin Jyutsu, a Japanese form of acupressure
* Crystals of Enlightenment, owned and operated by Los Banos’ Korinna Hernandez
* Sebastian, a psychic and spiritual healer
* Elk Grove artist Toni Tirapelle, who paints an angel for you while doing your spiritual reading
* Lodi’s Jenay Marontate, also known as the Kitchen Witch Gourmet, who sells hand-crafted teas and kitchen spices
* Massage therapist Jay Carmona of Modesto
* Henna designs by Renu Lal of Sacramento
* Oakdale resident Robert Stanford, who will be promoting his book “Stanford Tarot: Practical Tarot readings for the Practical Person.”
Additionally, there will be astrology readings, essential oil vendors, skin-care products, soaps, candles and jewelry. A raffle for various prizes will be held at 3 p.m.
The expo serves as the primary fundraiser for Turlock Spiritual Center, which opened in Turlock in 1975 and was then known as the Spiritual Science Church No. 4. The TSC has been at its current location, 533 Crane Ave., since 1998.
“We changed our name because people thought we were associated with Scientology or Christian Scientists,” said Cornell, who grew up in Monterey County and moved to Turlock 34 years ago. “I found this church in 1989 and never left.”
