Halloween fun with TPD
TPD Halloween 1
Natalie Chavez learns what it takes to be a member of Turlock’s SWAT team by Officer Ben Silva (KRISTINA HACKER/The Journal).

Local families got an early start to Halloween fun at the Turlock Police Department’s Trick or Treat & Meet event on Thursday evening at the Public Safety Facility. Visitors got up close with the department’s motorcycle units, SWAT team and met officers, while also enjoying some holiday games.

Other Halloween events happening this weekend and upcoming week include:

Stan State Athletics Halloween Fun Run: Stanislaus State is launching their inaugural Halloween Fun Run starting at 7 a.m. today, sponsored by Dust Bowl Brewing, Kiwanis of Greater Turlock and the Turlock Rotary.  The 5k and pond run across the Turlock campus will consist of folks dressed in costumes to benefit the Stan State Athletics Scholarship Fund. Those of all ages can participate — adults for $30 and children for $20. The winner of the costume contest will be announced at the completion of the run. A post-run party will take place at Dust Bowl’s Turlock taproom. Those interested in participating can register at https://csustan.hometownticketing.com/embed/event/319

Downtown Turlock Trick-or-Treat: Downtown Turlock’s annual Trick-or-Treat event will return for another year from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. Community members are encouraged to bring the kids out to visit downtown shops for candy, face painting, a bounce house and a soft play area for the littles, pictures with Skeleton Mickey, a photo booth and more.

FUMC Trunk-or-Treat: The First United Methodist Church at 1660 Arbor Way is looking to give more than just candy to the kids this fall. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, the church will be hosting a Trunk-or-Treat as part of its “Do Unto Others” campaign. Though there is no admission price for the event that features free food, games, face painting, balloon artist and, of course, candy, attendees can bring canned food items to benefit the holiday efforts of Turlock Together. Items requested from the holiday charity included canned green beans, canned corn, canned peas, canned tuna, canned soup, peanut butter and uncooked spaghetti. In addition to the games and giving, the Turlock Fire Department will be on site with a fire truck as well as a Turlock Police K-9.

— K-9s on the Move Trunk-or-Treat There will be no shortage of furry friends on Halloween night from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. when pet daycare K-9s on the Move at 1001 S Berkeley Ave. in Turlock host their third annual trunk-or-treat. Families are invited to hang with animals and to bring their own as folks kick back for family-friendly Halloween movies and snacks, including candy. For more information, head to www.k9sonthemove.com or call (209) 250-1151.

— Salvation Army Trunk-or-Treat: The fifth annual trunk-or-treat at the Salvation Army Turlock Corp. at 893 Lander Ave. will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Halloween night. Community members of all ages can attend for free. According to the organization, the event’s purpose is to “provide a safe environment on Halloween and keep the kids off the streets.”
