A broadside collision on Sunday killed four people, including three members of a Turlock family, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The two-vehicle collision resulted in the deaths of Daniel Lourenco, 44 Jennifer Lourenco, 45, and their 16-year-old daughter Madelynn. The couple’s 19-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son both sustained major injuries in the crash. The Lourenco family was traveling in a 2023 Jeep SUV.
The fourth fatality was the driver of a 2008 Infiniti sedan, identified as Uriel Guizar-Negrete, 22, of Modesto.
The collision was reported at 9:25 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Lander and Greenway avenues. Greenway has posted stop signs but Lander does not.
Guizar-Negrete was driving the Infiniti northbound on Lander at a high rate of speed, according to the CHP. The Lourenco vehicle was stopped at the stop sign at Greenway and entered Lander, where it was struck by the Infiniti.
The front of the Infiniti struck the left side of the Jeep. Guizar-Negrete was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Both Daniel and Jennifer Lourenco sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene of the collision.
Madelynn was sitting in the left rear side of the Jeep. She was rushed to Doctors Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries, according to the CHP.
Pitman High School posted on Monday that the Lourencos were part of the Pitman family and were offering support to staff and students.
“As many in our community may already be aware, on Sunday morning a Pitman family was involved in a fatal traffic collision,” the post stated. “We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and our hearts go out to this family and their loved ones during this difficult time. Pitman will have counselors and chaplains to support students, faculty and staff throughout the week, Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.”
Jennifer Lourenco was a teacher at Sinclear Elementary in the Ceres Unified School District. Daniel Lourenco was previously a manager with Turlock Irrigation District.
All passengers in the Jeep were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.
It is unknown at this time if drugs and/or alcohol contributed to this crash.
