With a population a little shy of 3,500, the small farm town of Denair isn’t typically hailed as a place of bubbling activity.
However, on Sept. 14, the streets will be busier as the town transforms into one giant, festive party.
The reason? The 4th annual Denair Farm and Family Festival.
According to event spokesperson, James Shehan, the event was the brainchild of city officials who were looking to bring some much-needed attention to Denair. Since the inception of the festival, 20,000 people have visited Denair for the festival over the last four years, with the numbers increasing every year.
“The numbers have just gotten better and better,” said Shehan. “It’s really great to see all the people who flock in every year.”
The festival is centered around two basic tenants: farms and family. With over 100 vendors offering up everything from fresh fruit to kettle corn, visitors can expect a variety of people presenting a slew of services and delicious treats.
“We get all kinds of vendors,” said Shehan. “There really is something for everyone.”
The festival will also host an array of live entertainment with a petting zoo, classic car show, antique farm equipment display, and motorcycle show. The star of the show will be Captain Spareribs, a comedic pirate act that is always a hit with kids.
“He looks exactly Johnny Depp,” said Shehan. “We’re really excited to have him here.”
Before the attendees delve into the actual festival, the event will begin with a charity run called Zack’s Attack. The run was created to help fight childhood diabetes and bring awareness to the growing problem within the country. Proceeds of the race will benefit the Central California Children’s Hospital Diabetic Clinic.
Shehan stated that everything the festival has to offer is designed to provide a fun, friendly and family-orientated atmosphere.”
“It’s all about getting the families out and showcasing our wonderful town,” said Shehan. “Plus, it’s free, so more reason to come.”
The event will be located in downtown Denair on Main Street and is set to run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 14. For more information regarding the festival or to sign up for the 5K fun run, visit www.denairfestival.com.
