Just short of a year after opening their first-ever distillery — and 16 years after breaking into the craft beer scene — Turlock’s Dust Bowl announced the expansion of its spirits portfolio with flavored moonshines.

These handcrafted spirits mark the distillery’s first venture into flavored moonshine, offering cocktail fans a smooth and inviting experience with every sip. The three spirits include Apple Pie Moonshine, Cinnamon Moonshine and PB&J Moonshine.

“For our first flavored moonshine releases, we went with familiar and comforting flavors of Cinnamon, Apple Pie and Peanut Butter and Jelly,” said Don Oliver, Distiller at Dust Bowl Distillery. “At 60 proof, they are very approachable. The Cinnamon has a huge aroma and subtle sweet heat, while apple and spice flavors work well in our Apple Pie Moonshine for a delicious, liquid apple pie. The PB&J offers subtle peanut butter and jelly flavors, sort of like a candy-like snack in a bottle.” 

Available in 750ml bottles, the original and flavored moonshines are available for purchase exclusively at Dust Bowl’s Turlock taproom. Guests can also enjoy these new spirits in carefully crafted cocktails designed to showcase their unique flavors. The Apple Maple Sour combines Apple Pie Moonshine with maple syrup, lemon juice, and a splash of club soda for a rich and refreshing beverage. The Orange Cinnamon Smash features Cinnamon Moonshine blended with orange juice, lime juice, and topped with club soda, offering a bright and spicy twist. 

The distillery’s debut spirit in June 2024 was Original Moonshine, which is 80-proof with a 40% ABV, hand-crafted from a bourbon base. The company said that it will be the cornerstone of the distillery as it pays homage to the brand roots that heavily reference the days of Prohibition. 

Though Dust Bowl has taprooms in Turlock, Elk Grove, Livermore and Monterey, the company’s distilling license only allows for the sale of spirits at the Turlock location at 3000 Fulkerth Road.

The new flavored moonshines — and cocktails inspired by them — are available at the Turlock taproom. The company also offers online sales, delivering Dust Bowl Distillery spirits door-to-door anywhere in California.
