Recreational swim is back for the summer in Turlock.
On Thursday, the City of Turlock’s Public Works Department announced that the pools at Turlock and Pitman high schools are back open to community members as a way to combat the simmering summer heat.
Both pools will be open Monday through Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. until Aug. 1. The Turlock High pool will be open for fewer days, though, as maintenance will be performed from July 8 through the 11. Additionally, both pools will be closed on the Fourth of July.
By opening pools at each high school, on opposite sides of town, the city hopes that recreational swimming can be more accessible to residents, especially since the $9.1 million pool renovation project at Columbia Park in Turlock’s westside neighborhoods isn’t expected to be completed until August, according to a report at a March city council meeting.
Nevertheless, the splash pads adjacent to the pool at Columbia Park will remain open, joining the high school in providing a place for folks to cool off.
At the high school pools, there is a $1 entry fee for children, while it will cost $3 for adults to use the facilities.
