For the first time ever, the Denair Lions Club and Denair Cemetery Association held a Memorial Day Service of Remembrance on Saturday morning in the Denair Cemetery, honoring fallen soldiers from every American war.
The Honor Guard was present, giving a 21-gun salute in recognition of those who have lost their lives serving the country, and local leaders like Stanislaus County Supervisor Vito Chiesa reminded those in attendance that the day is a somber one, citing the 620,000 soldiers who died in the Civil War alone.
There are 99 veterans buried in the Denair Cemetery, all of whom were honored over the weekend. The celebration is set to become an annual tradition, Allen Mortuary mortician Ben Allen said.
