An Oakdale man was killed in a solo vehicle rollover Friday night on Highway 99 just south of Delhi, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The man was identified by the Merced County Coroner’s Office as Henry Ray Sevier, 34.

The collision occurred around 10:30 p.m. Friday on northbound Highway 99, between Delhi and Livingston, near Collier Road.

Sevier was a passenger in a 2008 Dodge pickup being driven by Joseph Jesse Padilla, 37, of Salida.

According to the CHP report, the truck was traveling northbound on the highway when it suddenly veered to the left. Padilla overcorrected and the truck swung to the right and traveled about 100 feet before heading down a steep embankment.

The truck rolled over at the bottom of the hill, ejecting Sevier. He was pronounced deceased at the scene, the CHP reported.

Padilla was trapped in the cab of the truck and had to be extricated by Merced County Fire personnel. He sustained major injuries from the crash and was transported by ambulance to an area hospital.

The CHP reported that Sevier and Padilla were both not using seat belts at the time of the crash.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected factors in the crash.
