Crash between pickup, tractor leaves one dead
emergency

A collision between a pickup truck and a tractor on E. Keyes Road resulted in the death of one man Thursday morning.

The identity of the deceased has not been released pending next of kin notification. The deceased was driving a 1998 Ford pickup.

The collision was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 6 a.m. Thursday.

Michael Machado, 38, of Denair was driving a 1996 Case farm tractor at 11942 E. Keyes Road. According to the CHP, Machado entered E. Keyes Road and made a wide right turn, partially entering the westbound traffic lane.

The driver of the Ford pickup was westbound on E. Keyes Road, approaching Downie Road and the tractor.

The Ford pickup struck the left side of the tractor. The force of the impact sent the pickup in a northwesterly direction, where it collided with a telephone pole, just west of Downie Road.

The Ford had sustained major damage and the driver was declared deceased at the scene.

Machado was not injured.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the collision.

The driver of the Ford was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, the CHP reported.

"The CHP would like to remind all motorists seatbelts, when worn properly, have the ability to save lives when involved in a traffic collision," said CHP spokesperson Tom Olsen.
