One lucky individual has an opportunity to claim $629,182 after buying a MegaMillions lottery ticket at Circle D Liquor, 2630 Geer Rd. in Turlock.
The winning numbers were announced during Tuesday night’s drawing, with the Turlock customer successfully hitting five of the six numbers. The individual will have one year to claim the money, with ticket postmarked or received within one year from the winning draw date, which was July 19.
Mohd Yousofzai is the store manager of Circle D and was the one who sold the winning ticket on Tuesday. He says that, out of all the customers he sold tickets to throughout the day, he has a hunch of who the winner may be.
“We checked the time on the receipt of when we sold the winning ticket, and we’re pretty sure we know who it is,” Yousofzai said.
Yousofzai believes that it is a woman from Turlock who has shopped at Circle D in the past. Since the individual has not come forward, he is choosing to keep his lips sealed to ensure their privacy.
Because the money has not yet been claimed, Friday night’s MegaMillions jackpot increased from $555 million to a whopping $660 million. Yousofzai said that since the news of Circle D selling Tuesday’s winning ticket became public and the recent increase in the total jackpot, there has been a constant flow of people walking in to test their luck.
“We have had so many people come in to buy lottery tickets, much more than usual,” Yousofzai said. “The public is very excited and it’s very exciting for us.”
According to the California Lottery, retailers who sell winning tickets will receive ½ of 1 percent of a winning ticket, making Circle D a big winner as well.
MegaMillions draws at 8 p.m. every Tuesday and Friday and can be viewed live on the MegaMillions YouTube channel. The latest winning numbers can be found at www.megamillions.com/Winning-Numbers.aspx.
