“Gone fishing” is the motto the California Department of Fish and Game are hoping Californians will adopt on Saturday, the last of two free fishing days offered this year.

On Saturday, state residents can fish without a sport fishing license. In conjunction with Free Fishing Day, the Don Pedro Recreation Agency will waive vehicle day use charges for anglers at Don Pedro Lake.  Also, the shoreline areas within the developed recreation facilities of Fleming Meadows, Blue Oaks and Moccasin Point Recreation Areas will be available for fishing at no charge for vehicles. Anglers wishing to launch a boat and fish will only be subject to the boat day use fee of $8.

The intent of Free Fishing Days is to encourage people to take part in recreational fishing, whether it’s something they choose to do often or if it’s to try it for the first time. Free Fishing Days provide a low-cost way to give fishing a try.

All fishing regulations, such as bag and size limits, gear restrictions, report card requirements, fishing hours and stream closures, will remain in effect. On Free Fishing Days, every angler must have the appropriate report card if they are fishing for (if applicable): abalone, steelhead, sturgeon, spiny lobster, or salmon in the Smith and Klamath-Trinity River Systems.
