A host of programs for all ages will be offered at the Turlock Library in September.
The popular Read to a Dog program will kick-off events at the Turlock Library for the month. Independent readers up to age 12 are invited to practice their reading skills with the special Read to a Dog program at 12 noon today. This program is designed to help children gain confidence in their reading skills by reading aloud to certified therapy dogs. Readers need to pre-register by calling (209) 664-8100.
T(w)een Tuesday events will start with a stop-motion LEGO creations activity on Sept. 10. On Sept. 17, T(w)een Tuesday participants can create fun animations using OctoStudio. No prior coding experience is necessary for this activity. On Sept. 24, participants can learn how to sew a zippered pouch. All materials will be provided. All T(w)een Tuesday activities start at 4 p.m. This program is designed for ages 9 and older.
The Turlock Library will host a LEGO Day at 4 p.m. Sept. 10. Children will have the opportunity to build LEGO creations using the library’s LEGO and Duplo blocks. Children under 4 are welcome, but must have direct parental supervision.
The Turlock Teen Anime Club will meet at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the library. This month, the club will be watching “Ouran High School Host Club” (TV-14). This event is designed for ages 12-19.
A Turlock STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) event will be held at 4 p.m. Sept. 17. Using crayons and watercolor, children will create unique artwork to take home. This activity is geared for children 8 and under; children 4 and under must have direct supervision from parents or adult guardians.
The Turlock Chess Club will meet at 5 p.m. Sept. 18. Whether you are an amateur, a master, or somewhere between, bring your board to meet and play against others for practice or friendly competition.
Kids of all ages can learn how to make a simple drawstring bag at 4 p.m. Sept. 24. This quick and simple craft is perfect for learning dexterity and patterns. This activity is geared for children under 8; children under 4 must have direct supervision from parents or adult guardians.
UC Master Gardeners will be at the Turlock Library at 6 p.m. Sept. 25 for a workshop on how to create a California native plant garden. Many California native plants are water-wise, easy to care for, and have colorful flowers. In addition, creating a habitat in your landscape provides food and shelter for native pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
All ages are invited to join the Central Valley Game Lovers for a day of board gaming from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 28. Try a new game or bring your own. Most games are recommended for ages 10 and up, but there will also be games for younger players.
The Turlock Library is located at 550 Minaret Ave. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
