The Barber Club of Turlock will once again do their best to make sure every student is looking sharp for the first day of classes as they host their second annual Back to School event.

Students ages 13 and under can walk into the downtown barber shop from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Aug. 12 and receive a free haircut and backpack full of school supplies.

“It’s important to keep the community close hosting events for kids and families in need,” said Barber Club Turlock co-owner Francisco Vargas. “It’s always nice to do something close to your heart.”

Vargas said last year’s inaugural event saw 78 local kids receive a free haircut and school supplies. He’s expecting at least 150 this year. Along with the school supplies, there be on a raffle for a brand new bicycle and a 12-visit family care plan for parents at Mas Vida Chiropractic. There will also be clothes donations available for the children.

Vargas and the crew at the Barber Club are getting a little help this year from Mas Vida Chiropractic and Rinsed Salon out of Merced. While Barber Club will be handling the styles for the boys and young men, Rinsed Salon will make sure the girls and young women are looking their best before the first bell rings.

The event is walk-in only; no appointments are necessary. For families who can’t get a haircut on that day, Barber Club will be handing out coupons on Aug. 12 that are redeemable on another day.

The Barber Club is still seeking donations of backpacks and binders. To drop off supplies or monetary donations, visit 132 S. Center St., Turlock.
