Technology guru and author Abby Stokes has helped thousands of seniors learn to navigate the latest technology. She will be bringing her expertise to Covenant Village of Turlock at 1 p.m. Jan. 15 for a program titled: "How to be Smart with Your Smartphone and Tablet."

Stokes will explain in simple language how to get the most out of smartphones and tablets. By the end of her presentation, guests will know how to preserve battery life, how to use passwords to protect their devices, and how to navigate the devices' GPS, camera, alarm and calendar. Stokes will also explain how to text message family and friends, use emojis, and download apps, music, audiobooks and more.

Stokes is the author of "Is This Thing On?" and has taught courses in basic computing at Cooper Union and NYU's School of Lifelong Learning, as well as computer skills to private and corporate clients. Stokes is confident that everyone can master the computer and navigate the Internet, and is a firm believer that "If my mother can learn the computer anyone can."
