The City of Turlock Municipal Services Department celebrated its annual Go Green Week this past week. Although a slightly different set-up this year due to COVID-19, the City still wanted to provide online and pre-recorded environmental education to participating schools throughout Turlock. Through a partnership involving City staff, teachers, administrators, community organizations and volunteers, students learned about conservation and pollution prevention strategies such as recycling, composting, water conservation and waste reduction.
Now in its 14th year, the Go Green Program has helped to divert over 19,000 pounds of material from the landfill, plant over 222 trees, and assist with fundraising efforts to raise money for schools through recycling contests. Go Green Week seeks to engage students in activities to improve their schools and the environment as well as inspire participation in solutions for a sustainable future.
