Council to consider Geer Road improvements
Road-Work-Scheduled3

The Turlock City Council will consider at their meeting on Tuesday approving the next project under the Turlock Roads Initiative Program, the rehabilitation of Geer Road.

The proposed project will see the rehabilitation of the Geer Road corridor from N. Golden State Boulevard to Taylor Road. The Council will consider approving the design of the project with Mark Thomas & Company for $436,855, to be funded through Measure A funds.

The design development stage includes pavement cores and soil sampling, pavement design, LiDAR processing, supplemental field survey, boundary surveys for monument preservation and right of way verification, utility coordination, driveway access management, evaluation of General Plan and Active Transportation Plan requirements, funding applications, development of 30% Plans, public outreach, and Council presentations. Environmental clearance is anticipated to be a categorical exemption under California Environmental Quality Act.

The Roads Initiative Program was approved by the Council in 2021 and aims to rehabilitate Turlock's 428 lane miles of roads, which currently have a pavement condition index of 55 out of 100, over the course of the next five years by allocating 50% of Measure A funding for the cause. An estimated total of $5.5 million will go towards road projects annually, increasing the City’s existing road funding by 100%.

If approved, the Geer Road corridor will be the second project under the initiative program.

In February 2022, the City of Turlock approved a professional services agreement with a consultant for the design of the pavement rehabilitation of 15 streets within the City of Turlock. The design of these 15 streets will also include traffic striping, coordination with utility companies, and handicap access upgrades, specifically, the construction of accessible curb ramps when adjacent to a prepared surface for pedestrian use.

Those 15 road projects include:
