Emanuel Medical Center is taking a creative approach to cancer awareness this year with an art competition. The competition is part of the 13th annual Women’s Cancer Awareness Event presented by the Emanuel Regional Cancer Services. The theme for the Oct. 12 event is “The Art of Life.”The center is currently accepting entries into the art competition. In some form the art should help promote early screening for breast, cervical, and ovarian cancers.

“Through this art competition, amateur and professional artists can help Emanuel educate women about the importance of early detection,” said Debbie Tuttle, Emanuel Regional Cancer Services’ new breast health navigator. “We invite artists to use their creativity to motivate women to take control of their own health.”

Entries must be received by Sept. 24, and the winning entry will be showcased at Emanuel’s annual Women’s Cancer Awareness Event. Emanuel may also use the winning entry in a marketing campaign to promote women’s cancer awareness. In addition, the winning artist will receive a $250 honorarium.

The entries should be submitted in a digital format. The art competition is open to all two-dimensional mediums. The size of the completed project is limited to 24 by 30 inches, either vertically or horizontally. For an entry form and rules visit www.emanuelmedicalcenter.org/cancer.The cancer awareness event is set for Oct. 12 and will feature best-selling author and performer Nicole Johnson.
