Carnegie opens new ‘Paperwork’ exhibition
Kimono
Best of Show winner by Jayne Tucker, Kimono, reclaimed tea bags and cotton thread.

In a new Lobby Gallery exhibition titled “Paperwork,” the Carnegie Arts Center shares works created by 33 artists from 20 regional communities and beyond.

In a call for entries that went out in the fall, artists were invited to submit works in any format that used paper.

“The role paper has played in art over the centuries is as diverse as the medium itself. We wanted to see what creative ways artists could use or highlight paper in their work. We hoped to see paper that was drawn on, painted, printed, cut, glued, and molded —and the variety of pieces submitted went well beyond our expectations,” said CAC Director Lisa McDermott.

Eat the Rich III
Award of Merit winner by Sarah Anne Graham, Eat the Rich III, mixed media on paper.

Juror for the exhibition was Chelsea Gilmore, Professor of Art & Gallery Director at Modesto Junior College. She selected 52 works from among more than 90 submissions.  The exhibition includes paintings, drawings, watercolors, prints, photographs, collages, sculpture, ceramics, digital and mixed media works of all kinds. Over $1,000 in prizes was awarded to seven artists.

The exhibition will be on display through April 19. A free, public reception for the artists will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 24.  The Carnegie Lobby Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Tuesday through Saturday. Admission to the Lobby Gallery is free.
