Stanislaus State is hoping to inspire hundreds of prospective students to attend next year as they welcome them to the college campus Saturday for the Admissions and Outreach Services Department’s annual preview day and open house.
“Our campus community is committed to providing that personal touch to our students, making them feel welcomed,” said Assistant Director of Admissions and Outreach Services Carolina Alfaro. “Our campus is no longer that second choice campus, we have become a first choice campus for students and that’s due to the high quality education taught by our faculty, the deserving accolades that our campus continues to receive through national lists of distinction, and the relationships they build with our campus community.”
For over 20 years, the Admissions and Outreach Services Department has hosted the event, which gives high school seniors, transfer students and their families an opportunity to meet and speak with faculty, staff and current students.
The event will kick off with music from the school’s jazz ensemble and a welcome ceremony in the Fitzpatrick Arena that will feature opening remarks by Director of Admissions and Financial Aid Noelia Gonzalez and Turlock Mayor Gary Soiseth.
“We invited the mayor to talk about what Turlock has to offer, because not only are we showcasing the campus, we are also showcasing the community,” said Alfaro.
After the ceremony, guests will embark on the first annual “Warrior Trail Walk,” which is a symbolic crossing of the bridge over Warrior Lake. During this short walk, guests will also learn fun facts as they explore the campus.
The event will include an academic and resource fair, a session to meet with the Admissions department, a Warrior Highlights Workshop, financial aid and scholarship workshops, and a chance for prospective students will to check out the campus dorm rooms. Alfaro said that 41 undergraduate programs and nearly 10 student services will also be represented during Saturday’s event to showcase their programs.
“Faculty and department representatives will be able to meet with students one-on-one to share what their programs have to offer,” said Alfaro.
One of the highlights of the event is Early Admissions, which provides eligible first-time freshmen who applied between Oct. 1 and Oct. 12 the opportunity to pick up their official admissions letter.
Stanislaus State’s preview day and open house is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the main campus in Turlock. For more information, visit csustan.edu/admissions/preview-day or call the Admissions and Outreach Services department at 667-3070.
