The Annual Military Inspection Pass in Review (AMI) for the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) at Turlock High School took place Thursday afternoon. The AMI is an inspection conducted annually by the Navy to ensure that each unit is operating at and maintaining the military branch’s standards.

The mission of the NJROTC program, which is overseen by Lt. Commander Carlos Montanez and Chief Leslie Alston at Turlock High, aims to “instill in students in United States secondary educational institutions, the values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment."

To achieve their mission, the NJROTC offers students the opportunity to partake in national competitions such as air rifle, orienteering and academic. The program also presents opportunities for scholarships and information on military services as a possible career.

Ninety-six cadets participated in this year’s inspection. The inspection is followed by a formal military ceremony. During the ceremony, both the armed and unarmed drill teams performed a routine for the audience and distinguished guests, which included families, service members, veterans and THS and TUSD staff and administrative members.

Among those in attendance was NJROTC Area 22 Master Chief Mr. Ken Ballard, who addressed the cadets and families  and praised their dedication and accomplishments.
