For 15 years Dutcher Middle School has been producing high quality theatre productions with their students that bring together the community and allow for the students to showcase their talent and hard work.
Ann Cordell, director of the annual plays, explains that this middle school theatre production is one that does not disappoint.
“I love when people leave the theatre surprised because they are so impressed with what they saw,” she said. “These kids put in a lot of time and effort to put on a good show, and we make sure it’s entertaining.”
Dutcher Middle School has covered numerous different productions throughout the years, including “Annie,” “Fiddler on the Roof” and “The Music Man,” but this year’s production is based off the Disney musical, “Aladdin Jr.”
The show will take place at the Turlock High School Performing Arts Building with shows set for 7 p.m. Jan. 14, 15, and 16 and 2 p.m. Jan 16.
“The kids work so hard and have rehearsed Monday through Thursday since September,” said Cordell. “These productions are something that connects them to the school long after they graduate.”
Many of Cordell’s past students involved in productions at Dutcher Middle School went on to acting school, but regardless, she explains, many of them come back to help with the show when they are in town.
“It’s something that doesn’t end for the students,” said Cordell. “It carries on throughout the years and it’s a memory that they hang on to.”
