One woman died and another was hospitalized after they were found in a fuel tank in Delhi on Monday, the Merced County Sheriff’s office reported.
The investigation is ongoing. The sheriff’s office said that foul play is not suspected.
The name of the deceased has not been released.
On Monday afternoon the sheriff’s office dispatched deputies to the 15000 block of Oak Street in Delhi for a report of two individuals in a tank containing fuel.
When deputies arrived, they located two female adults in the tank. Cal Fire arrived on scene and began rescue efforts. The were able to rescue one woman from the tank and she was transported to an area hospital. Her condition is unknown.
The other woman was recovered from the tank and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
It’s unknown why the women were in the tank.
Animal services was called to the scene to handle three calves on the property that needed attention. The sheriff’s office said one had to euthanized and the other two were seized due to being malnourished.
