Motorcycle Officer Gavin Allison of the Turlock Police Department sustained moderate injuries in a traffic collision while pursuing a speeding vehicle on Monday, the Turlock Police Department reported.
Allison was conducting proactive traffic enforcement in the area of Geer Road and Hawkeye Avenue, and had his lights and siren activated as he was attempting to catch up to a speeding vehicle that was not involved in the crash.
Officer Allison sustained moderate injuries that required stitches to his arm and leg, but is expected to make a full recovery. The other driver involved was not injured, and at this time, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this collision.
His department motorcycle suffered extensive damage, according to the police department.
“We are extremely grateful that both parties are okay,” the police department said in a social media post. “Moments like this are a powerful reminder of the risks our officers face daily while working to protect and serve. Officer Allison was doing what so many of our officers do each shift — taking proactive steps to ensure the safety of our community.
“We thank our community for your ongoing support and concern, and we ask for continued well wishes as Officer Allison heals.”
The collision remains under investigation. If you witnessed the collision or have information that may assist with the investigation, please contact Officer Rocha at (209) 668-5550 ext. 6130.
