A dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend turned into a juvenile abuse case when the suspect allegedly threw a knife at the direction of the woman and her 1-year-old child.

The woman and the child were not injured from the incident, though they did have broken glass shower down on them from a broken lamp, according to the Turlock Police Department.

Around 9 p.m. Sunday the police department received a report of a verbal disturbance between a man and a woman in a room at the Sunrise Inn at 1350 N. Golden State Boulevard.

According to the police report, the suspect, identified as Danny McCown Jr. 35, had showed up at the room intoxicated and started arguing with his girlfriend. At some point McCown took out a pocketknife and threw it about five feet over the head of the woman, who at the time was lying on the bed with her 1-year-old child on top of her.

The knife bounced off the wall and struck a lamp, sending glass pieces on top on the child and the woman, said Turlock Police spokesman Officer Steve Rodrigues.

McCown was arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment and brandishing a deadly weapon.

Before McCown made it to the Stanislaus County Jail he had incurred another charge: escaping from custody.

McCown had been handcuffed and placed in the back of the patrol car. Rodrigues said he was able to slip the handcuffs from behind his back underneath his body and to the front of him. He then reached through the bars on the patrol car’s window and opened the door from the outside. McCown jumped from the patrol car as it was driving through the motel parking lot.

McCown was quickly apprehended again and placed back into the patrol car. During the ride to the jail McCown allegedly struck his head multiple times on the partition, causing a laceration on his head. He was given medical treatment before being booked into the jail.
