An 8-month-old baby died in a head-on collision that also injured three adults in an area on the outskirts of Turlock, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The collision was reported at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Vincent and Harding Roads, about two miles north of Delhi.
The head-on collision involved a Honda Civic and a Toyota Highlander.
The Honda was driven by a 20-year-old male from Delhi. His passengers were a 20-year-old woman and the 8-month-old baby.
The Honda Civic was traveling southbound on Vincent Road, just north of Harding Road at an undetermined speed. A white Toyota Highlander, being driven by a 43-year-old female from Turlock, was traveling northbound on Vincent Road, just north of Harding Road at an undetermined speed.
The Honda traveled onto the west shoulder of Vincent Road before veering in an easterly direction and traveling into the opposing lane of traffic, where it collided head-on with the Toyota.
The front of the Honda and the front of the Toyota collided. After the initial impact, the Honda continued traveling in an easterly direction and crashed into a wrought iron fence. The Toyota came to rest blocking both lanes of Vincent Road facing in a southerly direction.
Both the Honda driver and right front passenger, a 20-year-old female from Delhi, sustained major injuries during the crash. The driver was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for medical treatment and the right front passenger was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
An eight-month-old female passenger from the Honda was taken to Doctors Medical Center where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the Toyota was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for medical treatment. This traffic crash is currently under investigation.
It is not known at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor.
