The Turlock Police Department is investigating a series of robberies that have occurred at Donnelly Park over the past few weeks, including one that left a man hospitalized with serious injuries.
The robberies have happened over the last three weeks, with the most recent occurring around 6 p.m. Monday. In that case, officers were dispatched to a robbery report that had just occurred in the western parking lot of Donnelly Park. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim who had suffered life-threatening injuries after being assaulted with an unknown weapon, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Russ Holeman. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The robbery was committed by more than one suspect, Holeman said.
Another robbery was reported around 6 p.m. Nov. 26. In that case, the victim was at Donnelly Park when he was approached by five unknown males, who were all dressed in black and had their faces covered, Holeman said.
The victim told investigators the robbers threw him to the ground and kicked him as they stole his phone. One of the suspects then pointed a gun at a female victim and took her purse and phone.
The suspects left the park in a vehicle. No description of the vehicle was available.
The victims did use an app in an attempt to locate their phones. The last known location before the phones were turned off was an area near Modesto.
The Turlock Police Department is encouraging anyone who may have witnessed these robberies occurring, or who may have seen a group of subjects acting suspicious at Donnelly Park around the time of these incidents to call Detective Frank Navarro at (209) 664-7319.
