The Stanislaus County Special Victims Unit arrested a Livingston man on a variety of felony charges after he kidnapped and sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl.

The suspect, Edgar Perez Medina, 35, of Livingston, created a fictious profile on social media, posing as an 18-year-old man. He started chatting with a 16-year-old girl out of Stanislaus County and the two agreed to meet at a location in south Stanislaus County on Nov. 10, according to the sheriff’s office.

Medina met with the minor near her home as planned and demanded she get into his car. He then drove to a secluded orchard, where he violently sexually assaulted the victim. After the attack, Medina drove the minor into the city limits of Turlock, where he dropped her off.

After receiving the report, SVU detectives quickly identified Medina and found him to be a sexual registrant out of Merced County. He was convicted for a crime against a child in 2017. Medina is already a lifetime sex registrant with a full post on Megan's Law.

SVU detectives arrested Medina in Livingston, on an arrest warrant on Nov. 13. A search warrant was executed at his house in Livingston, and his vehicle was seized as evidence. Medina was found in possession of material depicting child sexual abuse, according to the sheriff’s office.

Medina was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for five counts of kidnapping with intent to commit robbery, rape, oral copulation or sodomy; communicating with a minor with intent to commit sex acts; arranging a meeting with a minor to commit sex acts; and possession of child pornography.

Medina was arraigned in court on Nov. 15 and held on $4.8 million bail.
