A short pursuit ensued after a reckless driver nearly collided with a Turlock Police patrol vehicle Wednesday night and ended with the arrest of the driver and his passenger.
The driver was identified as Henry Duncan, 60, of Stockton. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and felony evading. His passenger, Luz Chavez, 35, of Elk Grove was arrested for providing a false name to a police officer and for felony and misdemeanor warrants, said Turlock Police Sgt. Mike Parmley.
The incident began around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Golden State Boulevard and Taylor Road. A Turlock Police officer was patrolling the area when her vehicle was almost hit by a gray Dodge Dakota pickup, Parmley said.
The officer initiated a traffic stop, but Duncan sped away towards Highway 99.
A pursuit ensued on the highway from Taylor Road to Fulkerth Road, where the suspect took the exit and then stopped the vehicle in a parking lot off of Auto Mall Drive.
A high-risk stop was conducted and both Duncan and Chavez were taken into custody without further incident.
Duncan remains in Stanislaus County Jail on a $50,000 bail and Chavez remains in custody without bail.
