The Special Victims’ Unit of the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office conducted several compliance and sting operations targeting sex offenders during the 10-day run of the Stanislaus County Fair, resulting in 11 arrests, according to the sheriff’s office.
“Earlier this month, our dedicated Special Victims Unit conducted an operation during the Stanislaus County Fair to safeguard every attendee and ensure a secure environment for our children,” the sheriff’s office stated on Facebook at the end of July. “Undercover units were strategically positioned throughout the fair, and our team conducted rigorous compliance checks with registered sex offenders across the county.”
The unit arrested 10 sex offenders who were found to be violating the conditions of their registration. In some cases, the offenders are not allowed to be in a place where children would gather, like the county fair.
One other arrest was made when a suspect was caught in an undercover sting, attempting to meet a 14-year-old girl at the fair for “illicit activities,” according to the sheriff’s office.
The suspect was identified as Juan Jose Lemus Cortave Dillian, 26, of Turlock.
“Operations like these highlight the ongoing threats to our children and why it is so important to be proactive in our efforts,” the sheriff’s office said. “We're committed to continuing our vigilance and ensuring that our community remains safe.”
