TPD

Shots rang out in a Turlock neighborhood Monday afternoon in a drive-by shooting that wounded one man, the Turlock Police Department reported.

The victim, a 19-year-old man, sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound in the attack, according to the police department.

The shooter remains at large.

At 12:40 p.m. on Monday, the police department received a report of a drive-by shooting that had just happened in the 400 block of Locust Street with one wounded, said Turlock Police spokeswoman Dominique Sanchez.

Officers were the first to arrive at the scene and provided medical aid to the 19-year-old until emergency medical technicians arrived. He was taken to a Modesto hospital for treatment and has been cooperating with detectives in the investigation.

Officers were able to gather evidence at the scene, including multiple bullet casings and had statements from witnesses. Detectives were also gathering surveillance from the area.

The vehicle was described as a black or dark-colored SUV, possibly a Jeep Cherokee.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, possibly in his early 20s or late teens. He was wearing a black shirt and black jeans. He had a long ponytail.

Sanchez said it was too early in the investigation to know if the drive-by shooting was gang-related.

This case remains active and if anyone has any information they are encouraged to contact Officer Anthieny at (209) 668-5550 ext. 6631.
