One man is dead and another is in jail after a possible gang-related shooting in Turlock.
The Turlock Police Department said the deceased had not yet been identified.
The shooting was reported at 4:15 a.m. Monday at a motel in the 200 block of N. Tully Road. The police department said there were multiple reports of gunshots.
The first officers to arrive at the scene found a Hispanic man who had sustained a single gunshot wound. The victim was rushed to an area hospital, where he died from his injury during surgery, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Parmley.
Ceres resident Miguel Saldate, 19, was located at the scene of the shooting. He was not injured and was taken to the police department for questioning, Parmley said. Saldate was subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, as well as other felony charges, according to the police department. Saldate’s arrest for attempted murder relates to other individuals involved in the incident, but not yet located, Parmley said.
“This homicide may be gang related, however, it is still early in the investigation,” Parmley said. “Detectives are actively working on leads.”
The Investigations Unit and the Major Accident Investigations Team were called out to assist with the investigation and process the crime scene.
