The Turlock Police Department is investigating a shooting in an industrial area of Turlock that left one man hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the head.
The unidentified adult man was rushed to a nearby hospital with what was described as life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition as of Friday afternoon.
Around 8:30 p.m. Thursday the Turlock Police Department was dispatched to the 500 block of W. F Street for a report of shots fired. The first officers to arrive located the victim with a gunshot wound to his head.
Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Steve Rodrigues said the man was on the sidewalk next to Foster Farms’ turkey plant when he was shot. The area is right next to a break area enclosed with chain link fencing.
The police department said the suspect fled the area in a vehicle, but the department has not released any descriptions of the vehicle or of a suspect.
No weapon was recovered at the scene and the police department said the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.
An employee of Foster Farms, Meli Luisito Contreras Allstar, posted on the Journal’s Facebook page that the plant was put on a temporary lockdown while investigators gathered evidence at the scene. She also stated another lockdown was ordered around 1:45 a.m. because of a high speed chase going on in the area.
According to Turlock Police, the pursuit was of two suspects in an unrelated case.
Anyone who has any information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Brandon Bertram at 664-7323.
