Keyes shooting leaves 18-year-old dead

An 18-year-old was shot and killed in Keyes early Wednesday just hours after Fourth of July revelers had finished for the night.

Major Crimes Unit detectives with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating the homicide which occurred in the street in the area of Anna Avenue and Clark Street. Emergency dispatchers received the first 9-1-1 call at 2:10 a.m.

Patrol deputies immediately began to administer life-saving measures until first-responders and paramedic took over. However, he was declared dead after making it to a local hospital. A statement released from the Sheriff’s Department noted that a motive was unclear and they have no suspect information.

The victim was identified as Kevin Chavolla, 18, by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.

Detectives have called for the public to share any information on the shooting and suspect by calling Sheriff’s Detective Curtis Hankins at 209-525-7042.
