A Turlock resident and a former Fresno State wrestler has been arrested on allegations of raping a minor.
Isaiah Tito Perez, 21, of Turlock was arrested on Jan. 22 by the Fresno Police Department on suspicion of rape by use of drugs, kidnapping to commit robbery, rape, oral copulation or sodomy and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Perez has entered a plea of not guilty to the charges lodged against him.
The alleged assault occurred on Nov. 18, 2020 during an off-campus party at the Bulldog Village apartments. According to the police department the alleged victim is a 15-year-old girl.
Investigators learned from witnesses that the 15-year-old was inebriated and was unable to care for herself. The witnesses also said the girl left the party with Perez.
Perez was a student-athlete but has been dismissed from the wrestling team, according to Terry Tumey, director of athletics. He had been a member of the wrestling team for three years.
“The allegations of such violence, particularly sexual assault, are serious and disturbing," said Fresno State Interim President Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval. "Violence is a direct contradiction to our university values that are based on respect for the integrity of every individual. The university will review this matter in accordance with University policies and procedures.”
According to the university, Perez is a junior majoring in criminology – law enforcement option.
Perez was a standout wrestler while at Pitman High School, coming in as the runner-up in the 2018 state championship.
