A Turlock Police officer assisting with a traffic collision on Highway 99 was fortunate to escape injury when a pickup truck slammed into the patrol vehicle Saturday morning.

Around 5:30 a.m. the officer arrived at the collision scene on the highway, just south of Lander Road to assist the California Highway Patrol,

The officer positioned the patrol vehicle in the fast lane to provide traffic control and safety to the involved parties.

Unfortunately, a 66-year-old man driving a Chevrolet pickup did not see the cruiser’s emergency lights and slammed into its rear. Luckily, the officer was outside of the vehicle at the time of the collision.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.

“The California Highway Patrol would like to remind all motorists a complacent mindset can possibly lead to deadly consequences. Focus your attention down the road, lower your speed and always get to your destination in a safe manner,” the agency said on their Facebook page.
