The California Highway Patrol is seeking the identity of a driver that fled the scene of a collision Tuesday morning, leaving a motorcyclist critically injured on a stretch of road outside of Turlock.

The motorcyclist, Rodrick Baker Jr., 45, of Merced sustained major injuries in the hit-and-run, according to the CHP.

The collision happened around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday on Bradbury Road, just east of Commons Road.

The first emergency responders to arrive at the scene found Baker lying in the roadway with major injuries and his 2022 Yamaha motorcycle crumpled nearby. Baker was taken by air ambulance to Doctors Medical Center.

The preliminary investigation indicates a dark colored sedan, possibly a Volkswagen Jetta, was traveling westbound on Bradbury Road, approaching Commons Road.  Baker was riding his motorcycle westbound on Bradbury Road, behind the sedan.  The driver of the sedan entered the north shoulder before making a sharp U-turn directly toward the Yamaha.  The front of the sedan broadsided the right side of the Yamaha, causing Baker to be ejected onto the roadway.  The driver of the sedan fled eastbound on Bradbury Road.

Evidence at the scene indicates the sedan is possible a Volkswagen Jetta dark blue or gray in color.  The Jetta should have front end damage.  Specifically, the front grill should be missing.  Anyone with information pertinent to this collision is encouraged to contact the Officer Blake Mitchell at the Modesto CHP at (209) 545-7440.
