The Modesto Junior College Department of Art presents “The Place That Cannot Be” — an exhibit of art works by Chelsea Gilmore, MJC’s newest full-time art instructor, on display now through Nov. 29, in the Art Gallery on the East Campus, 435 College Ave., in Modesto.
The show features Gilmore’s abstract paintings and sculptures based on broken down and abandoned buildings. The gallery is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday and admission is free.
A public reception for the artist is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, with Gilmore speaking around 6 p.m. in the Art Gallery. The reception is free of charge and light refreshments are served.
Gilmore currently teaches basic drawing and appreciation of art at MJC. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from University of California, Davis and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from California State University, Chico. Prior to being hired full time, she also taught part time at MJC and as an adjunct art instructor at Chabot, Napa Valley, Las Positas and Cosumnes River community colleges, and as a full-time replacement instructor for two spring semesters at Napa Valley College.
