Families are invited to delve into Portuguese culture for tonight’s Family Friday festivities.

The event, “From Fado to Festa: An Evening of Portuguese Culture” will include music, dancing, and food from Portugal, the Azores and Brazil. The event is free and starts at 7 p.m. tonight.

The Poetry on Sunday Series is bringing four local poets to the Carnegie. Sponsored by the Modesto-Stanislaus Poetry Center, the afternoon’s readings will come from Gillian Wegener, Tom Portwood, Linda Scheller, and Gordon Preston.

An open mic will follow the scheduled poetry readings. The event is free and is set for 2 p.m. Sunday.

The Carnegie Arts Center is located at 250 N. Broadway. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. For more information call 632-5761.

Showcase exhibit opens at Carnegie

From more than 200 entries, jurors have selected 84 works that will be on display in the annual Carnegie Art Showcase exhibition taking place this summer at the Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock. The juried exhibition is a celebration of artistic excellence. The show opened Wednesday and will be on view in the CAC’s Ferrari Gallery until Sept. 5.
